People sometimes ask me: Which character do you identify with the most?

(My English grammar snob friends might ask: With which character do you most identify?)

That makes me wonder:

Which characters do you (the person reading this) identify with?

WHY?

For me, the answer is: All of them.

  1. I’m girl, so there is a part of me in every female character. Actually, at my age, I am definitely a woman, but let’s not get into that. The point is, I identify with Lucy, who is very introspective. And with Maggie, who looks like she has it all together at parties, but who has many insecurities. And with Claire, who has both a young spirit and an old soul.
  2. I’m a friend, and can identify with Jonah and Don and Naomi. They each have great qualities, and also some … uh … Well, I don’t want to spoil anything here. The point is, I’ve been blessed with good friends throughout my life–some I’ve had since early childhood, and some that were only in my life for a brief time. I’ve learned from all of them.
  3. I believe in God, so I identify with Father Patrick. Plus, my dad was catholic, and he taught me good things.
  4. I love the House of Israel, so I identify with everyone at the celebration.
  5. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so I identify with Sister Decker. My own real-life Sister Decker died in 2019, but I still feel her influence every day.
  6. I’ve lived in South Korea, so I identify with Don. I love all the Korean food Lucy loves. I also like science fiction, so there’s that.
  7. I’m a parent, so I easily identify with Lucy’s mother or father at different points in my parenting career. Being a mom–or a dad–is hard! And with all the best of intentions, we make oh so many mistakes. My mom was not a perfect person, but I see her struggles more clearly through the lens of time, and I am so grateful for everything she did for me. She was my first best friend.

Now its your turn: Tell me which character(s) you identify with:
