Your Talents, Skills, Gifts, and Abilities
What are you good at?
Can you think of ten things you do well–whether you call it a talent, a skill, a gift, or an ability?
Are you good at remembering names? Can you tell when someon is having a bad day? Can you dance?

Challenge 1:
- In your journal, write down all the things you can do well–as many as you can think of, at least, in three minutes.
- Go head. I’ll wait.
How many could you think of? Ten? Twenty? Eighty-seven?
Challenge 2:
Look at the items on this form below, and indicate whether you already know how to do that task, whether it’s something you want to learn or get better at, or if it’s something you are not intrested in doing.- As you read through this list, you might think of other things you want to learn how to do. Type three of those ideas in the blank space at the bottom of the form. (For example, I’d like to learn how to cut hair. I don’t want to do that for a living, but I think it would be a great skill to have.)
- Before you submit the form, choose one thing you will learn how to do this week. If it will take longer than one week, make a plan for learning how to do it. Then do it.
- Record your experiences in your journal.
What is the point?
The first point is: You can do soooooooo many things! You can do things I can’t do, for sure, plus things I have no interest in doing. (I really don’t like planning parties. I can do it, but I do not enjoy it. Ugh.) It is good (and healthy) to recognize and celebrate the things you can do .You have talents. You have abilities. You have skills. And you have gifts. These things should not be wasted. You have so much to offer the world.
The second point is: You are not done learning! You haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of all the things you can do, or could do, or will be able to do some day. We all have lessons ahead of us, and some of them won’t be fun. Some of them will require us to be brave. We will often need to step out of our comfort zone. However, you will be glad you learned to do them. Learning new things gives you a sence of accomplishment and of growth. They will enrich your life in ways you never imaged before.
So why not get started?
Choose to learn!
Get good at it.
Practice learning things you want to do.
Then, when you have to learn to do hard things, it will be easier.
Knowlege is power!
